erotÆme : a new concert series co-curated by ame and eroteme, at PINK
Collaborative project by sound artists Alanas Gurinas and Sholto Dobie—a newly formed duo working with acoustic sound sculptures and self-made instruments crafted from everyday materials. Gurinas shapes sound through vibrating, tensioned paper objects that emit pulsing sine tones, organic chirps, and shimmering textures that drift like weather fronts. In contrast, Dobie’s work is driven by air itself—compressed and channeled through valves, tubes, and timers into pipes of varied origins, creating a breathy, shifting sonic architecture.
London-based musician Li Song also joins us improvising with acoustic phenomena, percussion and laptop.
Again food provided in the ticket price but arrive early to avoid disappointment!
Sholto Dobie was born in Edinburgh and lives in Vilnius, he performs with self-constructed wind instruments, using a frankenstein-like set up which has evolved over many years. An air pump is attached to a series of reeded and metal pipes from various sources – organs, bagpipes and khene – which are brought to life by an interrelated system of timer modules, valves and swinging microphones. Release 23 captures the rich world of pulses, beatings and breaths that have emerged from Sholto’s performance settings, whilst weaving them into a distinct and unique audio work. For anyone more familiar with Sholto’s work you will no doubt be warmed by recognisably delicate and evocative styles reminiscent of previous solo recordings such as Nevery and The Ringer as well as influences from friends and collaborators such as Judith Hamann, Malvern Brume, Ahti & Ahti, Rie Nakajima and Shakeeb Abu Hamdan.
Alanas Gurinas is an interdisciplinary artist of a young generation who creates in the field of sonic performances and audiovisual installations. In his sonic practice he explores sound as a textural phenomena, the themes of ephemerality and relations between various hearable and unhearable objects and spaces. A slightly light tone is a live acoustic sound performance which uses paper as a main material for producing sound. Different kinds of papers are placed between two wooden clamps and with the help of weights are being strained till they find their resonance state. As a result different paper drone tones and textures are being produced.
Li Song is a London-based musician and computer programmer. He performs improvised music with his computer and composes music using electronics and acoustic instruments. His collaborative project with Zhu Wenbo, No Performance, focuses on compositions using environment sounds, acoustic instruments, computer algorithms, and random sequence. He is also a member of computer network music ensemble and research group, [ _ _ _ ], focusing on algorithmic collaboration. Recent works include Two Snare Drums (Infant Tree 2022), [ _ _ _ ] (with Jia Liu and Shuoxin Tan, SUPERPANG 2022) and Text (with Zhu Wenbo, Zoomin' Night 2021).
